
Mehdi
D. Salek, M.D. joined the Pueblo Pediatrics staff in August 1996.
Dr. Salek is a native of Arizona. Raised in Tucson, Dr. Salek majored in
Chemical Engineering at the University of Arizona and also attended
medical school at the University of Arizona College of Medicine.
After completing his M.D. degree in 1993, Dr. Salek moved to Phoenix to begin
his
training in Pediatrics at Phoenix Children's Hospital and Maricopa
Medical Center.
After completion of his Pediatric Residency, Dr. Salek
decided to stay and practice Pediatrics in Phoenix because of the
friendly people and love for the beautiful climate.
Dr. Salek has worked extensively with underserved
children in Arizona and in the Third World countries.
While attending medical school, he volunteered at
several clinics in Mexico and at a rural hospital in
India. During the second year of his Residency, Dr.
Salek worked in Malawi, Africa at a large rural
hospital of which his duties included Director of In-Patient Pediatrics, and teaching medical school
students the importance of Pediatrics in the Third World. He feels that
this was an experience of a
lifetime which was quite enriching and humbling.
Dr. Salek enjoys practicing General Pediatrics and especially enjoys
preschool through early elementary age children.
Dr. Salek and his wife have three boys. They have many interests which include exotic travel,
photography, tennis, basketball, jogging and most importantly, spending
quality time with their family.
